Will be with you ASAP!

Dear Readers,

Our beloved River Phoenix will soon be with you again, please excuse this sudden absence - you see, global economic crisis has shackled him into a hopeless struggle for money!

Will soon be back with you with lots and lots of fantastic new pop music! (I'm trying to convinve him write a piece on my newest latent discovery'the shortwave set' but he's still resisting)

Back to 1901

The single of the month probably...coming from the superb new album (Wolfgang Amadeus) by French band Phoenix. Their single is free for download from their site here. Thumbs up all the way to France..

Röyksopp - Junior

The Norwegian electro-pop duo is back after 4 years since their last hit album. You have to give them credit for consistency, both albums since their brilliant debut back in 2001 took 4 years before released. Their latest one is called Junior and is coming out on March 24th on Caroline label.

The new album continues on the path set by Melody AM and The Understanding. It is a blend of pop, electro and a bit of retro house. The usual suspects are there; Norwegian singer Anneli Drecker and Swedish singer Karin Dreijer. however, this time the duo also collaborated with Sweden's latest pop idols, Robyn and Lykke Li.

The album follows the easy path of The Understanding. Flawless pop with catchy beats and melodic vocals. However, while all these elements blended perfectly on their debut Melody AM, two albums later it sounds like Röyksopp are starting to repeat themselves. There are some good tracks in there and the whole album is quite enjoyable, but that's all there is to it. No hidden gems, no memorable and inspiring tunes like Eple. Hope the guys get back on track soon..otherwise this would be the last record from them that I'll bother to give another go.

Waiting for My Maudlin Career

Finally an album to look forward to. Coming out on April 21st from 4AD, the new Camera Obscura album titled My Maudlin Career. Now only if Belle decided to get some new material...

120 Minutes from the Past

Yesterday's post brought memories from the past. And in today's morning converstation with BB the classic show 120 minutes from MTV came up. So I thought I would dig even deeper and post a small take from the early days of indie, when 120 minutes was one of the few shows to promote this alternative sounnd on mass media. The clip features an episode with Pixies hosted live!!

Going Back to Today

Don't ask me how it came to me...I just had the burning desire today to hear a good track; so I had to go back in time with Smashing Pumpkins' Today!

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy @ The Wire

The legend on this week's Wire cover...

The Team

Athens66 started off as a common project by a bunch of friends but quickly turned into almost a personal blog (although some remains of previous posts can still be found). Currently, the Team has been narrowed down to two members, who besides being old friends and schoolmates share the same joy for Music, Movies, Alcohol and Pro Evolution sessions.

The sole purpose of this blog is to shout out whatever comes in mind about movies, music, reality, fantasy and all the rest. Nothing posted here is to be taken seriously, but then again what is? Since this blog is still quite fresh, we are definitely open to suggestions and directions (although most of them will just be ignored)
