Vancouver reveals the Apollo Ghosts

I'm preparing tomorrow's show (a tribute to Canada) and while seeking through my mp3 library I stumbled upon Apollo Ghosts. Needless to say they were immediately added on our playlist. This three-piece from Vancouver play simple but amazing indie rock that reminds me of the good old Seattle days. A quick search revealed an album (Hastings Sunrise) and an EP (Forgotten Triangle) along with some new material coming up on Geographing Records. Here are a couple of videos and tracks for you to enjoy. Check them out...they're worth it!

Sebastian Said about The Sonnets

The Sonnets are another new and upcoming Swedish band that specializes in melodic pop. They've just released their first single titled Sebastian Said, which revives the 80's uplifting era. I quite like this one (although I'm keen to anything coming out of Sweden) but I'll wait for their full album Western Harbour Blue before I can have a clearer view on it. From their first track however, it sounds like new Sound of Arrows are emerging..

I am Noxious...or not?

I am Noxious is another Londoner artist (we've stumbbled upon a few in the last few weeks) that is just starting off. He wrote his first track back in July last year titled Caught in the Snow (in the Sumemr) and has been composing music and writing lyrics ever since. He doesn't hide his influences in bands like Magnetic Fields and Hot Chip as they are evident on his tracks. I have to admit i really enjoyed the tracks I've heard which are based on catchy melodies that highligh his warm voice. To be totally honest, I prefer his power-pop songs as to the more electro ones...but I'm sure over time he will find the perfect balance. Enjoy!

Radio Dept. have set Heaven on Fire

One of the best Swedish bands is coming back with a new album release. Radio Dept. are set to release their new record titled Clinging to a Scheme on April 21st, of' course through Labrador label. They released a first single from the album last June and are now offering fans a second one titled Heaven's on Fire (out on March 24th). The track features a cover from Sade's All about our Love and has more British than Swedish elements to it. Enjoy!

Errors - Come Down With Me

Never say never! Right after yesterday's review of Hot Chip comes an even better surprise. This time it's from four lads from Glasgow (the music city we love). We've seen Errors in the past, although we did mention back then that they sounded awful lot like Foals (which ain't a bad thing anyway). Now they are back with a new album titled Come Down With Me set to be released next month on Rock Action Records (Mogwai's label).

Their sound remains a mix of electro and progressive rock but with a lighter touch this time around. Tracks like A Rumor in Africa, Supertribe and Germany are simply top notch. There are times in this album where Mogwai clashes with Air and Foals with M83...which is actually much better than it sounds. Yet another rough gem from Glasgow!!

Hot chip - One Life Stand

Those crazy Brits (Londoners to be precise) are finally back! Hot Chip have just released their fourth studio album titled One Life Stand. The record was released on Parlophone last Monday (February 1st) and we finally gave it a run for its money today.

Hot Chip sound much more mature in this record than ever before, although that doesn't sum-up much. The melodies are more synth-pop oriented and less electro, with obvious 80's influences. I would probably split the record in half, with the first five tracks setting a dance mood before mellowing down with Slash, Alley Cats and Keep Quiet. It's the upbeat and perfect 80's groove however of the first part and tracks like Thieves in the Night, One Life Stand and by far my favorite (and definitely track of the week for me) Hand Me Down Your Love that instantly made this album one of my favorite for 2010. Spot on lads!

Tradition in the Golden Ages

Golden Ages hail from Philadelphia and produce psych-pop music in the likes of M83 and Animal Collective (with a touch of Lindstrom). They are set to release their second album in spring titled Tradition (although there's really nothing traditional to their music) on Deerhaus label. They have sent us two of their upcoming songs from the record which I found really worthy to share. Check them out and space out...

The Team

Athens66 started off as a common project by a bunch of friends but quickly turned into almost a personal blog (although some remains of previous posts can still be found). Currently, the Team has been narrowed down to two members, who besides being old friends and schoolmates share the same joy for Music, Movies, Alcohol and Pro Evolution sessions.

The sole purpose of this blog is to shout out whatever comes in mind about movies, music, reality, fantasy and all the rest. Nothing posted here is to be taken seriously, but then again what is? Since this blog is still quite fresh, we are definitely open to suggestions and directions (although most of them will just be ignored)
