A Supersonic Future from Arshavin

Supersonic Andrei Arshavin gave Euro 2008’s favorites (after the first round) Holland an early ticket back home after a spending display of modern football. The Russians were unmatched yesterday and although they should have nailed the game before extra-time, they managed not paying for it (unlike Croatia a day before). As a tribute, we would like to dedicate the next band to perhaps the best player of this tournament (besides Bastian Schweinsteiger). Hopefully we’ll have a grand finale between Germany and Russia at the end and a colossal battle between our two favorites Bastian and Andrei.

So, our dedication comes in the form of Supersonic Future. This electronic based band from Moscow is a side-project of Oleg Kostrov and their latest album is Leslie Family, out on AeroCCCP Recordings (you just have to love the label’s name). Mixing dance bits with pop and electro and English lyrics with Russian, they are quite fun (although nothing more than that). But I guess they are perfect for celebrating yesterday’s win!

Zenit all the way

It was up to Igor Denisov and Konstantin Zyrianov to set things straight and give the UEFA Cup to the team that actually deserved it. FC Zenit St. Petersburg won their first European title last night after defeating 2-0 the unbearable Rangers FC. The Scots tried to steal one more victory by playing their usual annihilation system but fortunately for most of us, it only got them as far as the 72nd minute. And to top it of, the Russians doubled their goals on the 92nd minute to give them a blazing victory. All eyes now on Chelsea to salvage the Champions League as well…

Bayern des samma mia

We kind of expected it but not at this extend. Bayern has managed to equal their worst losing score ever (4-0) against Zenit yesterday. The Germans were a true disappointment and with them gone so have our last chances of watching the UEFA final (who actually cares whether Zenit or Rangers win it?). They truly deserve the following fake video (not as fake as their performance)

Send them all home Drogba

After a disappointing win from Manchester two days ago (damn you Ferguson) it came down to Drogba to save us from a miserable final. Let us just hope he can produce another appearance like yesterday's and send yet another set of Reds back home. Nevertheless, my focus this year is set at the UEFA cup (due to our beloved Germans) and not the Champions League. I'm hoping for an away win from Bayern (although due to being in Glasgow these days I'll probably watch the Rangers match in some local pub instead).

PS. I just noticed that we (Panathinaikos) demolished AEK yesterday (4-1) for the playoffs. Nice to hear but our miserable team is still not winning me back...not with their appearances the last few years (especially in European matches...pure disappointment)

Bayern über alles

Our beloved Bayern (my beloved to be more precise) is back on track for the UEFA cup after a typical German win in Spain. You can never write-off the Germans and they proved that yesterday (twice). It was up to a French-man (Ribéry) on almost the last minute of regular time (89’) and an Italian (Toni) on the last minute (120’) of extra time to tie the game twice and get Bayern on the semi final round after a sizzling match against Spanish side Getafe.

In other games, Leverkusen got an away win at Zenit (1-0) only to lose on aggregate (2-4), Rangers scored twice inside Sproting’s ground (2-0) after the first leg’s scoreless tie, and Fiorentina also got an away win (2-0) at PSV to progress (3-1). On the semifinals Bayern clash with Zenit and Rangers go head-to-head with Fiorentina (first matches on the 24th of April).
