Beth Orton's Stolen Car (female songwriters unite)
Most people will be too occupied during this weekend with either sports (with the Roland Garros final, the start of Euro2008 and the NBA finals) or just heading to the beach (I know I did with all these things). However, musically I was sent once again back in time due to Joan as Police Woman's new album.
I was always drawn into female singer/songwriters either with my first love Toris Amos or later on with the likes of Kristin Hersh, PJ Harvey, Heather Nova, Suzanne Vega, Liz Phair, Lisa Germano, Fiona Apple, Jewel, Joanna Newsom and Chan Marshall (Cat Power). Some of them are more popular, some more on the alternative side and some just things of the past. Nevertheless, they have always provided some great tunes, always there when needed.
So after the review of Wasser, I decided to dedicate the Clip of the Day to female songwriters. The song is Stolen Car and is from my all-time favorite female songwriter, the wonderful Beth Orton. I always have her album Central Reservation in my car and is my rescue record on those long journeys. This song is just on top of my list of simply best songs ever written...another perfect one..
