The Notwist – The Devil, You + Me
It was six years ago when the German band completed their transformation from punk to indie electronica with their album Neon Golden (praised by critics and adored by the audience). They are now back with The Devil, You + Me (out on Domino label), which I’ve been listening to over and over again. To be honest, I’ve been playing the record back to back with Neon Golden just to see the changes after all these years.
This album is definitely more indie than electronica, with guitars taking the lead in most songs. With the exception perhaps of Alphabet and a couple more (which remind more their previous album) the tracks are more down tempo (guess the beautiful opening track Good Lies may mislead some people) and melancholic. So, was it worth the wait?
To be honest, I really like the album and the feeling I have after listening to it a number of times. Those expecting something that will top Neon Golden, it will strike as a disappointment at first, but I guess when you listen to a beloved record for six years it’s hard to find a real follow up. I’ll just mark this as a really good album and come back after a couple of months (after I see them live in Roskilde) before I can really judge if this is just a worthy follow-up (from a band that can obviously write a good record with ease) or another masterpiece (doubt the second though). Until then, enjoy a couple of their songs and their first video..

ΘΑ ΠΑΣ ROSKILDE????
Μετά από Portishead και Notwist ποιος έχει σειρά που να μετρά 5-ετία+ να βγάλει δίσκο φέτος;
