Thoughts from the Beach (courtesy of Liam Finn)
Finally, after a number of failed attempts (mainly due to laziness or travel obligations) I was able to head down to the beach today. Despite the traffic and the thousands of people everywhere, it was quite refreshing to spend a day (or at least a couple of hours) in the water and laying on the beach (without being sunburned for a change).
Besides all this (which is probably irrelevant to most of you or just a reoccurring memory if you also live in Athens), the weekend gave me a chance to sit back, chill out and enjoy some music and alcohol (both in excess perhaps). So what's left from all this? Besides the morning hangover headache, some really good tunes which also accompanied me during the endless hours stack in traffic (calming me down). I've already posted a couple of new names yesterday and will post more soon, probably in the next couple of days. We've (along with BLR) also discovered some of the funniest (damn silly) band names around (even more weird than Natalie Portman's Shaved Head), which I'll also post soon (perhaps even tonight if I'm not drunk again after our usual Sunday visit to Pop).
But until then check out today's Tune of the Day. To be more precise, I've got two songs from last year's stunning debut album by Liam Finn titled I'll be Lighting. Liam Finn comes from Australia and is the son of Neil Finn, member of the Crowded House. After a couple of records with his first band Betchadupa, he toured with his father alongside Crowded House and from the experiences gained he decided to record a solo album, where he is performing most of the instruments (and writing all music/lyrics). The album is really amazing, with instantly lovable songs and a soothing sound. So, here are two wonderful songs from the album, which kept me company most of the day. Enjoy them as this summer's first weekend comes to an end..
